Chroma Aid
An intuitive design device to assist designers with colour vision deficiency
Internet of Things - Second Year Loughborough University Project, 2021
Chroma Aid is an intuitive design device that helps designers with colour vision deficiency stay creative and unhindered. The design takes shape from the natural ergomonics of the human palm to form a pocket sized scanner, with sweeping lines, for anyone to carry on the go. Choma Aid will solve CMF (Colour, Materials, Finishes) problems, inspire, and assist colour blind designers with key design decisions through its advanced technology detecting and describe the colour on a solid surface. Chroma Aid’s ability to share its information with other users, building a database of unique colour swatches and schemes, will allow for everyone to remain equally creative and competitive.
How it Works
With one click of a button, Chroma Aid can scan a coloured solid surface and then display the RGB, CMYK, and HEX values along with a short description of the newly scanned colour on the user interface.
The user can then store the values and description of the colour on the device as a single colour swatch, or add it as a new colour to an existing scheme.
The collected data will also be shared with other users of the same device, over the cloud, and provide colour related design inspiration, including different scheme examples involving the specific colour that has been scanned, and how popular it has been with other users.
